GriefShare 4 Kids
Children who have suffered the loss of someone close experience the same grief process that adults experience when they have had a significant loss in their lives. The grief process includes the stages of denial, anger, depression, bargaining, and acceptance.
In helping a child through the grieving process, it is important to guide them in identifying their thoughts, feelings, attitudes, beliefs, and expectations. Through this exploration you can help them form and understand their options and choices.
What Happens at GS4K
GS4K is a 12-week support group for children who have experienced the loss of someone close. A support group focuses on specific emotional needs. Children will be encouraged to talk about their feelings and actively listen as other children share their experiences. Through a support group, children can gain a better perspective on the common issues they face. They will learn to give and receive emotional support from others. This group will provide a safe place for children with similar situations to share their feelings, adjust to change, learn new behavioral skills, and receive prayer support.
Gerri Mehnert, the Planet Vineyard children's ministry pastor at The Vineyard says,
"I believe it is important for children to know there are other children going through the same situation they are and that there is a safe place to talk about their feelings and sort out their thoughts. Caring adults can help provide this safe place through our GS4K support group. I encourage parents to attend the adult GriefShare to receive support as a family."
The weekly biblical emphasis reminds children that ultimately they must seek help from God. We invite you to pray that God will use GS4K to help your child get to know Him better.
